RECAP OF THE TESOL UNCONFERENCEVN02
On March 14-15, 2024, another TESOL Unconference (TESOL Unconferencevn02) sponsored by the US Department of State’s 2023 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) was held at Ba Ria – Vung Tau College of Education. The participant-driven event brought together more than 139 English educators from the Southeast provinces of Vietnam and in Ho Chi Minh City, along with international colleagues from the US, Korea, Sweden, and Thailand. This Unconferencevn02 also drew representatives from the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City (online) and representatives of Executive Boards of Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance, Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology, and Ba Ria – Vung Tau College of Education. At the Unconferencevn02, topics relevant to both current and future teaching contexts, such as Technology Integration, Classroom Activities and Techniques, Classroom Motivation, Classroom Management, Teaching English for Specific Purposes and Standardized Tests, and Cultural Sensitivity and Global Citizenship were addressed. Additionally, a session focused on sharing best practices for hosting Unconferences, empowering participants to replicate the model at their own institutions. After the two-day Unconference, the participants left the event with renewed enthusiasm and practical ideas in English instruction. The event also fostered a strengthened network of colleagues across universities in the Southeast provinces and Ho Chi Minh City, along with international English professionals. Participants viewed the event as a great opportunity for collaboration, growth, and innovation, together driving transformation and excellence in English education
