The TESOL Unconference Summary
On December 14-15, 2023, Tan Tao University hosted a TESOL Unconference sponsored by the US Department of State’s 2023 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF). The participant-driven event brought together more than 120 English educators from many higher education institutions in the Mekong Delta provinces and in Ho Chi Minh City. At the Unconference, the attendees tackled a variety of topics relevant to both current and future teaching contexts, including Technology Integration, Classroom Activities and Techniques, Classroom Motivation, Classroom Management, Teaching English for Specific Purposes and Standardized Tests, and Cultural Sensitivity and Global Citizenship. The event also discussed ways to organize an Unconference effectively so that the participants can replicate the model at their respective teaching affiliates. After the two-day Unconference, the participants left the event with renewed enthusiasm and armed with fresh and practical ideas in English instruction. The event also fostered a strengthened network of colleagues across universities in Mekong Delta and in Ho Chi Minh City, igniting a shared commitment to collaboration, growth, and innovation for “Transforming English Education Together”.
